We carry out a series of research projects that, in conjunction with the administrative and methods cores, seek to fulfill the aims of the Center. The four primary research projects are described below:
Signature Project: Triaging to & adapting the level of care
PIs: Craske & Wolitzky-Taylor
The STAND program approach involves three levels of care, and level of care is determined based upon responses to specific surveys regarding symptoms. In the signature project, we compare two different methods of triaging and adapting to the appropriate level of care for each individual within STAND. Findings from this study may enable us to develop and implement better ways of providing personalized care in the future.
Project 1: Promoting recruitment & initial uptake of STAND
PI: Chavira
This project is designed to solicit student input iteratively across four years to develop and test engagement interventions that maximize recruitment and initial uptake of STAND at East Los Angeles College.
Project 2: Optimizing peer coaching
PI: Wolitzky-Taylor
This project examines treatment engagement, treatment satisfaction, symptoms, and functioning outcomes among Latinx students at East Los Angeles College receiving the digital program with peer coaching (Tier 2) to see what factors might increase engagement and improve outcomes.
Project 3: Preventing suicide & self-harm
PI: Asarnow
This project seeks to: 1) enhance risk detection for suicide and self harm; 2) evaluate effectiveness of STAND on suicide and self-harm risk; and 3) evaluate effectiveness of a technology-enhanced suicide prevention intervention.
Pilot Projects
In addition to the four above research projects, each year, the Center invests in pilot projects proposed by UCLA-based, early-career researchers.
